stale by hank brown

Bread gets stale so fast

I wish I had more time to enjoy it

Sure, I could freeze it

Thaw it out some other time

But that saps it of its life

It becomes chewy, tough

Its youthful exuberance lost

As it sits frozen

Between a package of peas

And a tub of ice cream

Foods conditioned

For a cryogenic existence
